In May 2016, heavy rains in parts of Somalia and the Ethiopian highlands triggered severe flooding in southern and central Somalia. Belet Weyne town was the most affected area, with more than 70,000 people displaced. Among these, 36,000 individuals took refuge in the Ceel Jaale settlement, while others moved to neighboring villages. By late June, nearly 70% of the displaced people along the Shabelle River in Belet Weyne had begun to return to their homes.
